Fixed braces

Braces have moved on. Clunky ‘train tracks’ are a thing of the past. Using the latest technology, we can provide you with discrete, comfortable solutions to help you get the smile you’ve always wanted.

Safe and reliable

There are now a range of options to help straighten misaligned teeth. However, fixed braces are a tried and trusted method to get great results every time. And thanks to the latest advances in technology, fixed braces are now more discreet than ever before, with thin metal wires and tooth coloured ceramic brackets.

Before & afters

Low pressure

There are lots of different options to help straighten your teeth, and we’ll make sure to help you choose the right solution, based on the current status of your teeth, your lifestyle and what you’d like the end result to be. To help you decide, here’s how fixed braces measure up against removable solutions like Invisalign

Removable aligners

Many removable systems use high force over a short timeframe, often focusing on a selection of your teeth (such as the front six). Due to the intensity of pressure, this can sometimes feel uncomfortable. Plus, too much high force can cause issues with the underlying bone, which can not only slow down the movement of teeth, but potentially damage roots.

Fixed braces

Fixed braces use a much lower level of force, spread across the whole of your jaw, for a longer timeframe. This lower force reduces the risk of damage to your teeth and encourages faster movement. In addition, fixed braces enable your teeth to move three-dimensionally, giving you more control over the end result and a higher level of accuracy.

FAQs

How obvious are fixed braces?

Today’s braces are much smaller and use fewer brackets than old-fashioned systems, which makes them less noticeable than ever before. However, if the visibility of braces is something you are really worried about, then a solution like Lingual Braces, where the braces are fitted to the inside of the teeth, might be a better fit for you.

How long will I have to wear braces for?

This depends on your teeth and the result you are trying to achieve, but fixed standard braces can be fitted for anything from three months to three years. The average length of a treatment is between a year and 18 months.

How often will I have to have my braces adjusted?

We’ll usually ask you to come in once a month to have them adjusted.

Will it hurt?

Composite fillings are strong and hard It is normal to experience some tightness and sensitivity when your braces are adjusted, but this usually only lasts around 24 hours.

Will I be able to eat normally?

We recommend avoiding hard and chewy food, along with fizzy drinks, to avoid damaging the braces or your teeth. If you play a contact sport, you will need to wear a gum shield to protect both your teeth and the braces.
