Teeth damage at night

Do you wake up with aching teeth, joints or a persistent headache? This could be down to bruxism (teeth grinding), caused by day-to-day stress and worry. A staggering one-in-three people suffer from bruxism, and yet it is an easy condition to treat.

Spot the signs

Many people who grind their teeth aren’t even aware of it. This is not only because around 80% of teeth grinding happens at night, but because most people who find themselves grinding their teeth in the daytime usually do it as an unconscious reaction to pain, frustration or anger. Plus, many of the symptoms of teeth grinding – such as neck pain and headaches – can take place away from the mouth, and lead people to think they are unrelated.

If you are suffering from any of these symptoms, talk to us about preventing teeth damage at night:

  • Broken or worn-down fillings and teeth
  • Aching jaws
  • Headaches (particularly in the morning)
  • Increased teeth sensitivity
  • Neck pain
  • Pain behind the eyes or in and around the sinus area
  • Difficulty opening your mouth
  • Pain when speaking or eating
  • Poor quality of sleep

FAQs

How do bite guards work?
Bite guards work very simply by putting a barrier between your upper and lower jaws, so that if you grind your teeth, you are grinding the plates of the guard, rather than the enamel of your teeth.
Are bite guards comfortable?
Bite guards can come in a variety of thicknesses and textures, depending on your needs and preferences. We’ll work with you to find the best fit for you.
Are there any other ways to solve teeth damage at night?
Teeth grinding can sometimes be worsened if you have a misaligned bite. We offer a range of solutions to solve bite issues, from bite guards to braces and tooth removal, when necessary.
